Boy, when you shoot, shoot the one you love

Chambray Shirt - J. Crew / Skirt - Forever 21 / Bike shorts - Aritzia
Belt - Gap / Sunglasses - Ray Ban / Shoes - Chanel

Here I present an outfit that I totally ripped off from a picture I saw in the summer 2010 issue of i-D magazine.  (The original was 100% D&G.)  Usually copying an outfit from a magazine or another blog makes me feel like a bad person, like I'm really uninspired, but the mood of this outfit was just right.  I was headed down to San Jose for one last time to see my parents before they left town and drop off my car (eek, I'm a real city girl now).  Did I mention it's 85+ degrees in San Jose right now?  Quite a change from the blustery weather we've been having up in San Francisco, so I used the opportunity to wear something summery, girly, and a little fashion forward.  Looking back at the photos, I think I look a bit like Annie Oakley in this outfit.  I just need a good wide brimmed hat and a shotgun and I'm there!

In the mood for some thoughts on fashion theory and semiology?  Continue reading after the jump for some meaningful analysis of this here outfit.

How?

Oh Lord, here we go.

As I'm sure you're aware by now, the Native American trend is sweeping the blogosphere and the outdoor music festival scene.  This typically includes headdresses, warpaint and mocassins, and occasionally will also include braided pigtails and next to no clothing.  And I have a problem with it.  Please allow me to explain.

American Apparel

Source: Gawker

Ok, so I had to get in on the action here.  American Apparel and Dov Charney are sleazy and disgusting and I want nothing to do with their commercial business at this point, but let me raise a couple of issues that have popped into my mind recently...

Is this thing on?

Extended hiatus over here, but it felt justified seeing as though I have practically no followers yet.  Yeah, I'm noncommittal...what of it?

Anyway, I thought I'd share my ideal summer reading list, because I think it's pretty exciting.  I've been searching for museum theory reading lists for a while and found an amazing one on the V&A website that covers fashion theory from historiography to morality and psychology.  The list is extensive (and I only picked a small portion that sounded interesting and relevant) and there's no way I'm going to get through all of these anytime in the near future, just in case you were wondering.  If you stumble across this blog and have some fashion, museum, or aesthetic theory suggestions for me, please let me know!  I'll update as I wade my way through the books with some mini-reviews and thoughts.

and naked we made it us too

denim jacket - H&M / dress - H&M / boots - Seychelles
necklace - La Dama

Ah, the day before Valentine's.  This has always been a somewhat melancholy holiday for me, and who can't say that at one point or another?  But this year I'm trying to look at things a different way.  I'm the girl who always wears all black all the time.  Holidays, then, are a reason to bust out the color!  The sparkle.  The feminine mystique.  And combat boots...

I can see the sunlight in your eyes

jacket - Anna Sui for Target / tee - AA / jeans - Seven / OTK boots - Stuart Weitzman / sunnies - Ray Ban

I took this picture ages ago and just came across it .  I was noticing that you can't at all tell where my boots end and my pants begin.  I'll have to try these again with jeans or a dress.  Lots of outfits are built around my thigh highs, they keep my legs so warm and cozy on these cold, windy days.

I've got news for you, baby

sweater -UO / dress - Silence & Noise / leggings - AA / shoes - Dolce Vita / bullet necklace - Black & Brown

Goofy picture, I know.  I'm still getting used to this whole taking pictures of myself thing.  I need to figure out good angles so that I don't look too fat but I also don't make my legs look like sad little sawed-off stumps.  So, with my miraculous 6" legs, I give you yesterday's outfit.  After taking these pictures, however, I immediately swapped the pumps out for my favorite combat boots.  A girl's gotta be practical when trudging to class on a rainy day.  Until next time, xoxo.
